ArtReach is delighted to announce the Leicester dates for Journeys Festival International (JFI) in 2017 as 21 August to 3 September. This innovative celebration of work from refugee and asylum seeker artists will include: a core Festival weekend in Jubilee Square (26-27 August); installations in Orton Square, LCB Depot and Phoenix; a special take-over weekend at New Walk Museum (2-3 September); and a range of collaborative projects with partners, including Curve, Attenborough Arts Centre, Soft Touch Arts, The Y, Leicester Print Workshop, British Red Cross, Leicester City of Sanctuary and After 18, amongst others.
The 2017 Festival is enhanced with the exciting news that ArtReach was successful in securing Creative Europe funding for JOURNEYS, to both support the Leicester project and extend activity through collaboration in Rome, Palermo, Budapest and Hamburg.
JOURNEYS project partners are CESIE from its Palermo base in Sicily (www.cesie.org), Explora, il Museo dei bambini di Roma (www.mdbr.it/en) and Altonale GmbH (www.altonale.de) with an associate partner, Trafo (House of Contemporary Arts – www.trafo.hu) in Budapest.
European partners, and artists working on JOURNEYS across locations, will be taking part in special events at Journeys Festival International in Leicester, building a strong platform for creatively sharing experiences and ideas.
